Shadow work is the deep spiritual practice of uncovering and healing the hidden parts of ourselves—the fears, traumas, and limiting beliefs we suppress. The Bible offers wisdom and guidance for this journey, providing light in the darkness. By combining scripture with intentional rituals and candle magic, we can invite divine healing, transformation, and self-acceptance.

Below, you’ll find Bible verses paired with shadow work rituals, prayers, and candle correspondences to help guide your healing journey.

1. Self-Reflection & Acknowledging the Shadow

Bible Verse:

“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” – Lamentations 3:40

Ritual: Journaling with a Black Candle

• Light a black candle to represent deep introspection and uncovering hidden truths.

• Take a journal and write about patterns, emotions, or fears you have been avoiding.

• Read Psalm 139:23-24 aloud:

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

• Ask God for clarity and truth.

• After journaling, close your session by extinguishing the candle and saying:

“I embrace my whole self, seen and unseen. With God’s light, I walk in truth.”

2. Facing the Darkness Within

Bible Verse:

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5

Ritual: Mirror Work with a White Candle

• Sit before a mirror in a dimly lit room and light a white candle for divine illumination.

• Look into your own eyes and recite:

“I do not fear the darkness within me. The light of God is within me.”

• Reflect on any emotions that arise. Acknowledge them with love.

• Close by placing your hands over your heart and praying:

“God, shine Your light within me. Help me to see myself fully and love what I find.”

• Let the candle burn for a while, then snuff it out with gratitude.

3. Healing & Transformation

Bible Verse:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2

Ritual: Spiritual Bath with a Blue Candle

This ritual helps release emotional burdens and invite divine renewal.

What You’ll Need:

• A blue candle (symbolizing healing and peace)

1. Light the blue candle and say:

“Holy Spirit, renew my mind and my heart. Wash away all that does not serve my highest good.”

2. Soak in the bath while meditating on areas in your life that need healing.

3. As you emerge, take the small bowl of water and anoint your forehead, saying:

“I am made new in God’s grace. My mind and heart are renewed.”

4. Journal any insights received and allow the candle to burn safely.

4. Acceptance & Grace

Bible Verse:

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Ritual: Self-Love Anointing with a Pink Candle

5. Releasing & Letting Go

Bible Verse:

“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13-14
